How to Remove Tarnish from Copper

Posted on August 27th, 2008 in life , , , ,

This is for future reference:  lemon juice and salt. Basically in a consistency like a thick paste. The grit of the salt acts as an abrasive when rubbed with a washcloth.
This cleaned up the tiny copper oil lamp that I found at a thrift store for a dollar, and gave it a nice shine. Now [...]

New Firefox Out!

Firefox 3.1 is finally out! Which means that I’m going to spend hours adding tags to my bookmarks. The wonders of cross-indexing… LOVE IT!

Climate Change

Posted on August 24th, 2008 in Planning, life , ,

According to an article on BBC News, “temperatures in the first half of the year have been more than 0.1 Celsius cooler than any year since 2000″. As Gordon Ramsay would say: “Fuck Me!”
It continues: “Even so, 2008 is set to be about the 10th warmest year since 1850, and Met Office scientists say temperatures [...]

Slave Market

Posted on August 23rd, 2008 in Important Matters, life , , , , ,

This has totally pissed me off:
SoundExchange (the RIAA) considers any digital performance of a song as falling under their compulsory license. If any artist records a song, SoundExchange has the right to collect royalties for its performance on Internet radio.
And this is even worse:
If a label or artist wants their share of the money, they [...]

the pantry defensive

Posted on August 22nd, 2008 in Zombies, life , , ,

H: “and related to not having any holding cells:”

Baron Ünderbheit: What are they doing here? Put them in the holding cells while I decide how they are to die!
Manservant: We don’t… we don’t have holding cells, Your Thoughfulness.
Baron Ünderbheit: No holding…! Fine. Put them in… the pantry.

….
that made me think [...]

Resume Update

Posted on August 19th, 2008 in life ,

Talking with a friend of mine, whom I used to work with in what you could call a semi-recruiting job last year, I have come to the conclusion that I need to re-write my resume. I know from first hand what it is like getting dozens, even hundreds of resumes a day and having to [...]

Personality Tests

Posted on August 18th, 2008 in life , , , ,

I’ve been applying to a lot of jobs lately, which means I’ve completed a lot of personality surveys. Although I’ve noticed that Unicru supplies the majority of them, they’re not all created equal. Some are annoyingly restrictive – you cannot fit “East Norriton” into the “City” box, and you certainly cannot include your overseas work [...]

Salmari

Posted on August 13th, 2008 in life , , ,

Well, I didn’t break my promise to not to drink beer till I get a job. However,  my bottle of Jim Beam has gone down. And I have a plan for my Vodka.  Since my mum acquired me some Tyrkisk Peber (” a strong liquorice candy flavored with ammonium chloride” … tastes better than that, I swear), I’ve [...]

Bottom’s Up…

Posted on August 12th, 2008 in life ,

I found out that the next scheduled training (and hence hiring) at the job promised to me is postponed till November; the job I was so happy to find. So back to the search again.
So tonight’s a drinking night. After all, there is nothing my friend Jim Beam and I can’t deal with. We’ve been through worse.

Downgraded Neighborhood

Posted on August 9th, 2008 in life

We had our first visitors from the realtors yesterday. They got the grand tour, and then the lease came up somehow. According to the realtor that was giving the tour, of these four apartments one was vacant and the rest were on monthly leases. I had to inform him that that information was out-dated: The [...]
